Friday, 8th of January 2009, is a memorable day for two reasons. One is YJ's birthday, his 19th birthday, if I may add, which means that he is officially the bit tai kor adult of our Dog Tag-slash-Milo T-shirt gang. Also, since the internet here has been down for the past 2 days, I haven't included this next bit yet about his birthday. Quite strange but the 8th of January was also the first Snow Day I've ever experienced which means that school is cancelled (for the whole day) and just exactly how I spent the rest of the day, well, I'd say I made it worthwhile.

After the blessed news of a Snow Day, I went shopping with Aruha to get her gloved (for a very good reason) and then, we took a long walk to visit Victoria park. As with the whole of Ashford, the route we took was completely white and iced with snow still falling like powder. Snow looks pretty on the ground and on trees but don't ever try to eat snow in the UK, by the way. It tastes like shit like stale refrigerator ice.

Getting back after a couple of photos, I got invited along with a couple others for a snowball war (girls versus boys) which took up half of our morning until lunch time. One of the boys, Ivan, got turned into a human snowman when we cornered him and piled snow all over him. Epic. There was a second snowball war after dinner as well, which was as crazy as the first and then, since no one goes to bed early on a Friday, Aruha and I had a movie marathon watching Sakuran and Tim Burton's Corpse Bride and eating bacon chips, which, yeah, is quite unhealthy but damn tasty.

Aku seorang manusia. Kaum aku tidak ku tahui. Bangsa aku tidak ku tahui. Ibubapa aku pun tidak ku tahui. Aku hanya tahu bahawa aku seorang manusia yang dilahir di tepi pantai di dalam sebuah kelapa. Pada suatu hari, apabila aku berusia enam belas tahun, aku bersiar-siar di tepi pantai tersebut. Pasir putih yang lembap and halus-malus berasa lembut pada tapak kaki aku yang kian berjalan di atasnya. Di sebelah saya, laut yang biru "turquoise" campur hijau-hijauan mempunyai riak di atas permukaannya . Aku suka warna biru dan hijau. Oleh itu, aku pun menuju ke arah ombak sehingga pergelangan kakiku ditelan air laut yang sejuk dan masin itu. Aku terus berjalan. Paras air laut telah sampai ke aras pinggang saya dan kemudian, ke paras dada saya sehingga kaki saya mula memijak air (treading water). Namun, aku tidak peduli. Matlamat aku adalah untuk sampai tempat dalam laut di mana ombak, ikan dan air saling bermain. Aku terus berjalan. Paras air laut yang masin dan pahit itu telah sampai ke hidung aku. Pernafasan menjadi sukar dan tidak lama kemudian, aku tidak mampu bernafas lagi. Air memenuhi paru-paru aku. Air mengcenkam leher aku. Air menyelam otak aku. Dan pada saat itulah, aku mati.

Dua hari kemudian, sepasang nelayan telah menemui aku di tepi pantai. Nyawa aku telah dikembalikan dengan cara yang agak aneh. Menurut kata-kata suami isteri tersebut, mereka telah menjumpa saya yang kian dalam badan bayi di dalam kerang buah kelapa. Oleh itu, aku dinamai Gadis Kelapa.

Last Friday, the Boarding House seniors organised a Halloween party for us all. There was a pumpkin carving competition and a Ghost House (which is basically a whole building turned into a scary haunted house). It wasn't scary but it was pretty cool, in a way.

This is my pumpkin. Like, "wow", eh?

The pictures shown below are of Day 1, the morning right after we arrived. Dinner the night was at a Thai restaurant in France, which strangely served sushi, dim sum and toffee banana as part of its buffet. Best part was -- I probably shouldn't laugh about this -- was this Frenchman who put har mai in his soup.

RIGHT. Moving onwards: The weather in Geneva is cold but bearable, although I learned (afterwards) that wearing another extra layer is advisable if you're going to stay out in the open after the sun sets...

Went out to the city at night under this strange, strange moon.

Must be because of Halloween...

The next morning, after breakfast, we went back to the city again. Saturdays in Geneva are quiet and silent even though there is activity going around. In fact, the whole city is a rather quiet place in general ... even though there was a campaign going on outside the station.

But the temptation was suppressed.

Geneva has parks with GIANT checker boards and pieces.

This wall has history etched in writing atop its surface as well in its own being there. Emily says that there once used to be a wall enclosing Old Geneva in and this bit here was part of it. If you compare it to the size of the staircase on the right, it's size is collossal indeed.

Back home in Malaysia, we have steamboat for dinner feasts and etc. Right here in Geneva, we have steamboat too, prepared by Aunty Sandra.

I rate it 10 stars. It's damn bloody good.

The next morning, she made dim sum for breakfast. I think Aruha really liked it since she's never had dim sum before ... she be deprived! =0
But just as her steamboat was good, Aunty Sandra's dim sum was just as tasty. I really her talent. Wish I could cook European food properly ... all I know how to do is whip up pasta and flavoured garlic oil. How exciting, no?

And after that, it was time to return to windy, gloomy ole UK. And here it is, the last glimpse of the Alps from the plane:
